Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Uganda Mountain Gorilla & Hiking.

This small National Park protects the Ugandan portion of the Viringas, a chain of six extinct and three active volcanoes which follows the borders with Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Mgahinga was proclaimed with the primary aim of providing sanctuary to the rare mountain gorillas which live in the Viringas and gorilla trekking remains the main activity here. Apart from it’s habituated Gorilla groups, Mgahinga also supports in it’s diverse forest, fauna and moorland, the localized golden monkeys and atleast 12 bird species endemic to the Albertine rift. It’s also home to small populations of Elephants, Leopards, Buffaloes and Black & white Colubus monkeys.
The park is a spectacular setting at the base of the volcanoes, the tallest of which reaches an elevation of 4507m, Mountain Muhabura and is among the most striking in East Africa.
